Change Your State

Ever had an incident where when you were feeling like ‘shit’ and down, everything seemed to be going really bad for you? and when you’re feeling great, the day seems to be going really good?. What’s going on in our mind determines how we perceive what is happening to us. Our emotions control our actions, our decisions, and our reactions. Would you like to know how you can change your state in an instant? It would be great if we could go from upset to happy in an instant, yes?

Tony Robbins says take control of your consistent emotions and begin to consciously and deliberately reshape your daily experience in life. The key is to always be aware of the emotional state we are in, and change the state in an instant to ensure we constantly remain in our desired peak state. As a continuation from the previous post on my 3 and a half days with Tony Robbins and team, here are 5 things you can do to change your state in an instant.

1.”Asstitude”
This is one thing that gives you a split second state change! Taught by Joseph McClendon III on the 2nd day at Unleash The Power Within, it never fails to tickle. This ‘move’ has often helped me curb the need to send out unnecessarily hostile or negative emails. There have been occasions where i receive emails that causes me to want to release a barrage of profanity or stern words in response to the lack of thought put in by the sender. (I bet you’ve had moments like this too, am i right?). A quick dose of ‘asstitude’ changes my emotional state, and paragraphs of well crafted profanity get deleted as i suddenly realise that its not warranted.
So what is an ‘asstitude’?. If you’re seated, try this. Just wriggle your ass left and right real quickly for a fews seconds.  How did that feel? did it put a smile or at least a smirk on your face?. Thats an ‘ASSTITUDE’! Now the next time you feel upset or frustrated about something, shake that ass before you respond or before you make a decision. If a few seconds doesn’t cut it, do it a little longer! Heck, get off your seat and shake that ass!

2. Change Your Breathing
The next time you get agitated or frustrated or even upset, pay attention to your breathing. Is it fast or is it slow?. Its probably fast, short, and shallow breaths am i right?. Fast short breathes create a sense of anxiety and increased heart rate. If we want to shift our emotions, then we have to be aware of the state we are in and disrupt it. Change outr state of being by taking notice of your breathing and slowing it down. Sit up straight, relax, close your eyes if you need to and take deep long breathes. Feel the air going in to your lungs, filling you up with oxygen, and watch your heart beat slow down. Change our breathing and watch as our state changes with it. Calm down!

3. Gratitude
There are tons of research on how gratitude can help make our lives better, and how having a gratitude practice can help set up our minds for a better day ahead. One of the simplest ways to change our state and alter our brainwaves is to switch our focus to something positive. Simplest step to change our state is to just take a moment and run through a list of things that you can be grateful for that day, week, month, year. It could something as simple as a great cup of coffee in the morning or a major project you just landed. 5. Focus
You are what you focus on, and what you focus on you give energy to. If you’re focusing on fear, anger or hate towards someone or a situation, you’re actually manifesting it and giving those negative energy even more energy! The easiest way to change your state is to switch your focus quickly to something else. Train the mind to be able to switch focus fast, and focus on the great things that are happening for you or switch to your weekly achievements no matter big or small. Always train the mind to focus on the positives only. Give energy to positivity.

Remember, you control your state. Change your state and make better decisions.
