This global epidemic is going to change the way we do business forever. There are few key things that organisations, especially the less ‘resource filled’ small SMEs. My views here in this video.
Sad to see so many companies around me going under in these troubling times. Alot of them were running extreme slim margins, mostly caused by years of competition and lack of innovation.
Thats right! You can go bankrupt whilst making a profit! How does that happen?
It’s that time of the year again, parties, dinners, holidays and celebrations. For many, its where we take the time to look back at the year and reflect on what we did right, try really hard to remember what we didn’t do, bask in the memories of what we did, and then set new resolutions and goals for the coming new year. How was your 2017? Here is my year in a nutshell and some of the key lessons i learnt throughout the year.
Oh my, where do i start?!
I’ve been staring at the screen for a half a day and i am still lost as to where i should start because there is just too much to pen down. The sheer number of wonderful friends i’ve made, the amount places we visited, the knowledge gained, the unique experiences, and of course there is climbing the highest mountain in England and Wales, Mount Snowdon…
I am going to pen a 3-part series for My DMT Study Tour (ST) Experience. Part 1 and 2 will be a journal like entry about the overall trip, experiences and places we visited. My final entry in this series aims to share all the entrepreneurial, leadership and life learnings we gained from travelling together. I hope that these 3 blog entries can provide you with enough information so that you too can plan your own self drive trip through England and Wales. I encourage everyone to go on a self drive tour, you get to see and experience so much more of the local culture as well as some interesting sights.
In our quest to build a unique values driven organisation, Pulse Asia is continuously working to ensure we get our fundamentals right. These fundamentals or the foundation of our legacy will be the cultivation and disciplined practice of our values, defining and maintaining the Pulse Asia culture, and the continued implementation and fine-tuning of our strategies to propel us towards our vision.
As PulsElites we focus on continuous self improvement, hence we continuously seek inspiration and are always looking out for opportunities to learn. I’ve been following a fellow Bond Alumnus who has been making waves for years in the legal and property industry here in Malaysia. As we were blessed with the opportunity to reset what we were doing, i got in touch with this “Maverick Lawyer” and requested for one of his famous private tours of his award winning “CAstle”.
While reflecting on how we’re doing things differently today, i decided to pen down some of the key learnings. When the brand we help built collapses, thats when your eyes open and you can see things clearly, when you realise and reflect on the strategies, the steps taken, the actions, the things you said, the things people were saying. You start to recall and note down how the people in the organisation behaved and you notice a pattern. These are the results of the unspoken rules and values that govern the organisation, its culture. Like having an epiphany you are suddenly aware of what you did wrong, as a leader in the company, what you failed to act upon.
The captain always goes down with the ship, and if i am the captain of this ship it is my job to ensure the ship stays its course and never goes down because by golly i don’t want to drown (again!).
PKT Logistics is operating in an industry where you would almost certainly never hear the words ‘people centric’ and ‘fun corporate culture’ be frequently mentioned let alone ingrained into every aspect of its business. PKT even prides itself as being Facebook compulsory! Definitely unheard of even in many industries.
Well with only a 2% employee turnover rate and 50% returning staff, PKT logistics is putting Malaysia on the world map for logistics thanks to it’s commitment to being world class in all aspects of its business. So when an opportunity arrived to spend half a day with the man behind this revolutionary transformation was offered by my friend from Medicos Disposables , i jumped on the opportunity without hesitation. An intimate session with the amazing Dato Michael Tio or better known as DMT was truly an amazing experience and an inspiring afternoon to be remembered.
Sharing some of my fave videos that have inspired or helped me. If you haven’t already watched them, do spare the time.

In a previous post we spoke about the top 3 pieces of advice, today we are diving a little deeper and going to look at item number one, VISION.
Vision is determining where you’re going, your north star. A shining beacon that keeps you on course no matter the weather. It could be your dream translated into a statement, or literally how the organisation looks like in 20-years or maybe how it looks like at the end of your life, it could also be what you want the company to remembered for or known for. It answers questions like what legacy do you want to leave behind? What is the purpose of this organisation? If your only goal is to make money, go get a job, work hard and climb the corporate ladder. 95% of businesses fail in the first five years. Truth is, even if you do make it past the 5 year mark… your personal take home income may never be as high as what you’d be earning as an employee.
