“If you want to go fast go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” You have probably heard or seen that quote. While it is frequently used to emphasise the power of teamwork, it holds true for many aspects of life.
If you’re starting a business, i can find more pros than cons in having a partner(s). Being able to leverage off each other can be extremely powerful in building your organisation. Throughout the years, i have had the pleasure of learning from a few partnerships both in my personal and professional aspects of my life. And here’s some of the key perks of a business partnership.

An old friend was having a conversation with me recently about how one of the best decisions he ever made was to sell his Porsche and buy a Honda Jazz. And no, he has not suffered any loss in income, in fact his business is booming. In that same conversation he talked about a guy he met recently who was just starting his business and was adamant on buying a Mercedes. His justification was that because he was starting up he needed the ‘image’, and my dear friend who has been in business for years tried hard to convince him not to jump into that trap. The conversation struck a chord with me because i’ve gone and made such decisions, hence been on both sides of that fence.

In a previous post we spoke about the top 3 pieces of advice, today we are diving a little deeper and going to look at item number one, VISION.
Vision is determining where you’re going, your north star. A shining beacon that keeps you on course no matter the weather. It could be your dream translated into a statement, or literally how the organisation looks like in 20-years or maybe how it looks like at the end of your life, it could also be what you want the company to remembered for or known for. It answers questions like what legacy do you want to leave behind? What is the purpose of this organisation? If your only goal is to make money, go get a job, work hard and climb the corporate ladder. 95% of businesses fail in the first five years. Truth is, even if you do make it past the 5 year mark… your personal take home income may never be as high as what you’d be earning as an employee.
