“You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” ―John C. Maxwell
Being rather honest here, i have never been known to be the disciplined sort. In fact, i doubt the word ever existed in my vocabulary and i reckon i’d be closely associated to the words couch potato and lazy. It came to a point a few months ago that Mc Donald’s delivery and food panda were an almost daily affair because i was just too lazy to go out or cook. And naturally, i grew, sideways.
Sept. 2018: Whilst in the midst of battling some personal issues, an invitation came over dinner one evening from a friend whom i don’t see often enough. An invitation for a 2-week self drive adventure around Iceland.
Back in February i attended Unleash The Power Within by Tony Robbins. A 3 and a half day intense event that saw us walking on flaming hot coals on the first day to breaking self limiting beliefs on the 3rd day, and filled with high energy dancing, high fives and hugs every hour every day!
“Live with an attitude of gratitude.”
– Tony Robbins
It’s that time of the year again, parties, dinners, holidays and celebrations. For many, its where we take the time to look back at the year and reflect on what we did right, try really hard to remember what we didn’t do, bask in the memories of what we did, and then set new resolutions and goals for the coming new year. How was your 2017? Here is my year in a nutshell and some of the key lessons i learnt throughout the year.
Problem attracting and retaining top talent? Toxic work environment?Traditional business and don’t know where to start with this buzzword called CULTURE?
Come join us on the 17th of August, 4pm to 7pm as we share HOW you can address the above and create an awesome working environment! Special guest speaker Mr. Chris Tan will be speaking on work culture in one of the most traditional and oldest professions in the world.
19th May 2017: Workculture.asia’s first live event.
Workculture.asia is a community initiative brought to you by PULSE ASIA & WOBB, in association with CULTURISTIC of PKT Logistics Group. Conceptualised with an aim to curate and share knowledge and best practices to help build beautiful organisations throughout Malaysia and greater Asia.
Workculture.asia had our first LIVE event on the 19th of May 2017 at the cool new co-working space WORQ in GLO MALL. Our first knowledge sharing event saw us briefly introducing WORKCULTURE.ASIA, our objectives behind this community initiative, and sharing on what we have planned for the future. Our line-up of speakers for this event included Derek Toh from WOBB, Jwan (me!) from PULSE ASIA, Chris from HUMAN INC, and special guest Dato Michael Tio from PKT LOGISTICS GROUP.
This is something we are continuously working on and something i’ve been studying and experimenting with since my previous enterprise, the efforts in building a values based organisation. Currently in Pulse Asia we have not implemented a handbook, instead we have a values guide. A guide that talks about each of our core values, what they mean, and what behaviours are associated with each value. We make our decisions (try!) based on our core values, run activities that are in-line with these values, and also hire people who believe in our values. So here’s me trying to answer questions i frequently get asked on core values and hopefully help you to develop your organisations’ core values. Continue reading “On Values”
“Team not performing up to expectations? High staff turnover? Problem attracting talent?”
Do the above sound familiar? All the pay and rewards don’t seem to be working?
Well, there is something we can do about it, improving that one part of our organisation that separates us from our competition. Something that has seen the likes of organisations such as ZAPPOS, GOOGLE and VALVe achieve record performance, and attraction and retention of employees that have catapulted them in to stardom. Looking closer to home and away from tech world, local heroes PKT Logistics boasts employee retention rates that are nearly unheard of not just in the unsexy world of logistics but dare i say it, in Malaysia.
What do all these amazingly successful organisations share? The right culture. A culture focused on the single most important thing in any organisation, The PEOPLE.
