Back in February i attended Unleash The Power Within by Tony Robbins. A 3 and a half day intense event that saw us walking on flaming hot coals on the first day to breaking self limiting beliefs on the 3rd day, and filled with high energy dancing, high fives and hugs every hour every day!

A handful of us got our tickets early and as the date neared, our contingent of friends that finally headed to The Singapore Expo for Unleash The Power Within had soared to 30 people! We joined about 12,000 others, all eager to learn from the number one business and life strategist, Tony Robbins.
If i had to recap everything from the 4-days, i would have to re-write a couple of Tony’s books. Echoing the words of the man himself, keep things simple and focus only on 3 things, as Tony said “One, Two, Three, COMPLICATED.” So here are the top 3 things i learnt from my immersive experience at Unleash The Power Within (UPW) by Tony Robbins.
1. Making a decision
Throughout Day 1 of UPW, Tony’s main focus was on getting us into peak state, teaching us how to change our states and being able to address and overcome our fears. This was in preparation for the night’s Firewalk, where everyone (except those who couldn’t get themselves into peak state opted out!) walked barefoot over hot burning coal. Just for your information, coal burns at just under 2,000 degrees! So trust me, it was hot!
For me, the firewalk was not about overcoming the fear of walking on fire or as a ‘mind over matter’ exercise. The biggest lesson from the firewalk was understanding that it is not about walking those few seconds on hot burning coal, it was the decision to take the first step that mattered most. You could easily talk yourself out of it and come up with various excuses (and many people did!), when it comes to hot coal though, once you’ve made the decision to take that first step there is no turning back.
Like most things in our life, we find all sorts of reasons and justifications for not taking that first step, not making that first move. To make any progress in life, we just have to make that decision to take the first step and the rest is all progress. After all, your life is determined by the decisions you make, the quality of your life is the quality of the decisions you make.
“It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.”
– Tony Robbins
2. Your State
You cant control what happens to you, but you can control how you react to it.
The state you are in has the greatest impact on everything you do because our behaviour and our decisions are determined by our emotions. The decisions and reactions we make would be vastly different if we were in a negative sad state and if we were in a positive happy state. Just think about a time when you reacted to a situation negatively and after awhile or a day later, you kinda regretted it and wished you had handled the situation differently. Why did your choice of reactions change? Because our state changed.
The key then to making better decisions and igniting the right behaviour is to ensure that we are in the right state before reacting or deciding. Always keep our state in check.

3. Energy
I enjoy hitting the dance floor every time i get the chance and have attended my fair share of raves and concerts throughout my life. I’ve been able to dance sans alcohol (or drugs!) for hours on end all the time along with the rest of the party goers. I never really thought about how i managed to do all that, until i attended UPW.
Staying focused or even sitting through a full day conference/training yet alone one that lasts all the way past midnight can be challenging for me. At Unleash The Power Within though, i never even left the hall! And Tony on the other hand could go on jumping, screaming, and talking non stop from morning till midnight without any food breaks! He attributes all that to the energy level he has and is IN.
A special combination of up tempo music, dance moves, cheers & claps, high-fives, and massages (yes massages!) kept our energy levels at its peak. That high energy state we were constantly in kept us focused, attentive and able to better absorb what was being shared.
Our energy not only keeps us to keep going, it also emanates from within us and people around us can feel it. Surrounding yourself with high energy people helps to keep your energy levels up, allowing us to do and achieve more.

“It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently.”
